Nautilus Shutter History

Nautilus shutter history

In 2009, Michael Heeissenberg set out to design a rolling shutter that would revolutionize the industry. His goal was to create a shutter stronger than those developed after Hurricane Andrew in the 1990s—products that were still being manufactured without significant improvements.

He aimed to design a system that would meet all existing testing protocols while also being the most compact shutter available. The result was the Nautilus shutter, engineered with 12 different sizes of single-wall blades that roll into a hood smaller than any other shutter in the industry.

The Nautilus shutter quickly redefined expectations. To this day, no other company has successfully produced a rolling shutter that matches its combination of compact size and strength.

Due to its groundbreaking design, Heeissenberg received the Innovative Products Award at the RTS Shutter Exposition in Stuttgart, Germany in 2015. He remains the only American in the history of the exposition to receive this honor.

Today, Nautilus shutters are manufactured in Port St. Lucie, Florida, as well as in France, Germany, and the French West Indies. They continue to stand as one of the most advanced and compact rolling shutter systems in the world.
